Delta Speaker Shines as SWAN Honours Him with Award of Excellence in Sports Development

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence in Sports Development by the National Leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

At a brief but colourful ceremony held in Asaba on Tuesday, the Speaker was also admitted as an Associate Member of the Association, with all rights and privileges.

Speaking during the event, SWAN National President, Comrade Isaiah Benjamin, praised Rt. Hon. Guwor for his unwavering commitment to sports development in Delta State and his collaborative relationship with sports journalists across Nigeria. He recalled the association’s last convention in Asaba, noting that the Speaker’s support contributed greatly to its success.

Benjamin described Guwor as a dependable partner in the growth of sports and assured him of SWAN’s continued support for the State Legislature.

In his response, Rt. Hon. Guwor, who also serves as the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, expressed delight at the honour. He described himself as a passionate lover of sports and thanked the leadership of SWAN for the recognition.

The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining partnership with SWAN and other stakeholders in promoting sports, stressing that the 8th Assembly under his leadership will continue to encourage youth participation and development through sports.

He added that the award would further spur him to do more in ensuring sports growth not only in Delta State but across the country.

Rt. Hon. Guwor was decorated as an Associate Member of SWAN by the Vice Chairman, SWAN South-South, Mr. Azuka Chiemeke, while the Award of Excellence plaque was presented to him by the National President, Comrade Isaiah Benjamin.

The Speaker was joined at the event by members of the Delta State House of Assembly including Honourables Edafe Emakpor, Prince Emeka Osamuta, Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, Benson Obire, Matthew Omonade, and Anthony Alapala.
