The Delta State House of Assembly on Thursday 27 November, passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill through Second Reading after a debate that saw lawmakers pour encomiums on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s development strides.
Leading the pack, Majority Leader Hon. Emeka Nwaobi moved the motion for the bill to be read the second time, describing it as “the financial backbone” that will push the governor’s MORE Agenda deeper into the 25 local government areas.
Members of the Assembly who spoke with one voice said the budget will open more rural roads, ensure health centres wear a new look, and communities long forgotten will feel government presence.
They credited the beautiful marriage between the executive and legislature for the smooth ride.
Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, obviously pleased with the harmony, committed the bill to the House Committee on Appropriation headed by Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola for clause-by-clause surgery, urging ministries and agencies to come well prepared for defence.
He said the budget strengthens the shared commitment to building the Delta State that is envisioned by all.
As the House broke into brief applause, members expressed confidence that when the final figure eventually lands on the governor’s table, Deltans will have every reason to smile.
With the Christmas break fast approaching, the race is now on for committees to justify the trust reposed in them by turning in a clean, people-centred budget before the year runs out.
