Amid rising security concerns nationwide, the Delta State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Lucky Osagbokhoe, has thrown his weight behind renewed calls for the establishment of Community Policing structures.
Reverend Osagbokhoe made the position known during an interview with journalists, stressing that localized security architecture remains vital in addressing the country’s escalating safety challenges.
”The rise in the cases of insecurity across the nation, has necessitated calls from different quarters to finding lasting solutions.
One of the most trumpeted but often ignored calls is community police. “
The Chairman of Delta State Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Reverend Lucky Osagbokhoe said that it was high time, the Federal Government embrace community police.
According to the Delta State CAN Chairman, the members of local vigilantes and forest hunters should be converted to be the community police.
He emphasized that the vast knowledge of the civil security apparatus about their localities would aid the fight against rising insecurity in Nigeria.
The CAN Chairman also advocated for dialogue as a formidable tool to resolve issues calling all aggrieved persons to always engage the Government in dialogue.
The Delta State CAN Chairman, Reverend Lucky Osagbokhoe further called for unity towards improving the fortunes of the country.
