Delta State Government Partner With Action Aid to Further Implement the MORE Agenda

Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to rural transformation, as it outlines an asset-based economic growth plan to promote inclusive growth, create jobs, and revive local communities.

Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Ada Val Arenyeka made this known at the ActionAid/ENVIRUMEDIC close-out of the Local Rights Programme in three local government areas of the state, where he urged stronger collaboration with local, federal, and global partners

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources represented by a Director in the Ministry, Nwabuogor Ajeboh commended ActionAid Nigeria and its state partner, EnvironMedic, for implementing life-changing projects in Ughelli South, Ughelli North, and Ndokwa East Local Government Areas over the past 18 years.

The Commissioner lauded ActionAid’s initiatives for promoting sustainable development, noting that the reforms and progress achieved align with the Delta State Government’s MORE Agenda.

He urged the organization to sustain its collaboration with the state government in pursuit of a better society.

Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Director of the Environmental and Rural Mediation Centre (EnvironMedic), Monday Itoghor a key implementing partner outlined the programme’s achievements since inception.

He highlighted enhanced community empowerment, increased transparency, and stronger government–civil society partnerships among its major successes.

Mr. Itoghor encouraged beneficiaries to build on the programme’s gains to further improve livelihoods and community development. He noted that although the LRP had officially closed in the three LGAs, Action Aid is still executing similar projects in other parts of Delta State.

He expressed gratitude to the programme’s sponsors and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to sustainable rural transformation.

The Action Aid Nigeria Country Director, Andrew Mamedu represented by the Deputy Country Director, Suwaiba Muhammed Dankabo thanked Environ Medic and the Delta State Government for creating an enabling environment for the LRP’s success.

He described the Local Rights Programme as one of ActionAid’s most enduring commitments to community-led development and social justice, noting that it had significantly transformed rural communities in the benefiting LGAs.

He assured that Delta State would continue to enjoy more Action Aid interventions in the future and urged beneficiaries to remain ambassadors of the programme’s ideals.

Also in their various remarks, Representatives from the three LGAs expressed deep appreciation to Action Aid Nigeria and Environ Medic for the project’s life-changing impact, particularly on women, children, and men.

The Ughelli close-out ceremony served not only as a celebration of the LRP’s achievements but also as a platform to acknowledge supporters and secure government commitment to sustaining its legacy.
