Delta State Launches Second Phase of Tertiary Entrepreneurship Programme to Boost Student Innovation

The Delta State Government has officially kicked off the second cycle of its Tertiary Entrepreneurship Programme (TEP), a scheme designed to equip students in state-owned tertiary institutions with the support they need to develop and grow viable business ideas.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Harry Trakiriowei, made the announcement during a sensitisation exercise held at Dennis Osadebey University. He explained that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s approval for the continuation of the programme reflects the administration’s sustained commitment to youth empowerment and economic inclusion.

According to the commissioner, the Ministry of Youth Development has concluded all preliminary preparations for the rollout of the new phase. He disclosed that the online application portal will be activated in the coming days, advising interested students to begin assembling the required documents ahead of time to ensure a smooth application process.

Barr. Trakiriowei outlined the eligibility criteria for applicants, stressing that only duly registered students of Delta State-owned tertiary institutions will be considered. He added that prospective beneficiaries must demonstrate clear, practical business ideas and show readiness to participate in the mandatory training and mentorship sessions built into the programme.

He urged students across the state to take full advantage of the opportunity, noting that the initiative forms part of the government’s broader push to deepen youth participation in entrepreneurship, reduce unemployment, and nurture a generation of innovative, self-reliant young Deltans.

The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s determination to continue expanding empowerment programmes targeted at young people, emphasising that TEP remains a key pipeline for supporting student-led enterprises and strengthening the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
With the launch of this second cycle, the Oborevwori administration aims to further widen access to skills development, funding opportunities, and practical business support for thousands of aspiring student entrepreneurs across Delta State.
