Two distinguished members of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. James Augoye and Hon. Ferguson Onwo, have reached a remarkable academic milestone, earning their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Public Administration from Novena University, Ogume, in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The lawmakers who represent the Okpe and Isoko South II constituencies respectively successfully defended their doctoral dissertations before a panel of examiners on Thursday.
Hon. Augoye, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, presented his research titled “Performance Appraisal of the Administration of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Selected States.”
Their achievement stands as a testament to their commitment to lifelong learning and public service excellence.
Meanwhile, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, a former Majority Leader and the current Chairman of the House Committee on Health, centered his doctoral research on the topic “Petroleum Subsidy Removal and Cost of Living in Nigeria: A Study of the South-South Geopolitical Zone.”
The panel of examiners praised both lawmakers for producing outstanding and policy-relevant research, highlighting the valuable contribution their work makes to governance and Nigeria’s socio-economic development. Dr. Ndubuisi Johnson, Head of the Department of Political Science, commended their dedication and intellectual rigor.
Filled with gratitude, the visibly delighted lawmakers credited their achievement to divine grace, saying they “give all glory to God, who made possible what once seemed an impossible task at the start of this academic journey.”
They also expressed heartfelt appreciation to their families, colleagues, and associates for their unwavering support throughout their studies.
