Delta State pledges Commitment to Invest in Sports Development

As the 2023 edition of the Zenith Bank/Delta State Headmasters’ Cup kicked off on Thursday in Asaba, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has said that the state government will continue to show total commitment to youths and sports development in the state.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Delta State Headmasters’ Cup, Commissioner for Primary Education Hon. Sunday Onoriode, who represented the governor commended Zenith Bank Management for its contribution to youth and sports development in the state.

He stated that the government of Delta State will continue to create a comfortable and conducive environment needed by young sportsmen and Women in Delta State to grow in their sporting careers.

“This youth football competition has been put together to grow and foster in our children the love for sports, encourage team spirit and also, to assist them in actualizing their dreams in sports.”

“The competition has been sustained due to the unstoppable and relentless effort of our title sponsors, Zenith Bank PLC.”

This tournament has shown encouraging and fruitful results in the past and promises to continue to be a pivot for the development of grassroots sports in Delta State. I want to thank the Zenith Bank Management for its support and also urge them to remain our partners as we continue to push for excellence in sports.”

Secretary to the State Government, Chief Patrick Ukah, was among the top dignitaries who witnessed the ceremony.

Meanwhile, in the opening match, Ezemese Primary School Ibusa whitewashed Abu- Ato Primary School of Asaba 5-0.
