The Delta State Government has announced that starting Monday, October 13, 2025, the Directorate of Transport will begin conducting vehicle inspections and road safety checks for all vehicles traveling at night.
In a statement from Asaba, Mr. Harold Ojji, the Permanent Secretary and Director of Public Communication in the Ministry of Information, explained that this effort aims to boost road safety and cut down on accidents caused by poorly maintained vehicles and traffic rule violations.
To help with the exercise, the government has hired BLU HERON LTD as a compliance consultant, working alongside Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs).
The announcement says that all vehicle owners and drivers in Delta State must meet specific requirements before traveling at night.
This means making sure all lights and reflectors are working, vehicles are safe and in good condition, drivers have valid licenses and complete paperwork, spare tires and essential tools are on board, overloading is avoided, and all traffic rules are followed.
The statement also urged drivers and vehicle owners to cooperate fully with officials during the checks, emphasizing that the policy is meant to protect lives and property.
