Ese Gam Secures Second Term as UPU President-General with Wide Victory Margin

Olorogun Barrister Ese Gam Owe has been returned as President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) after winning 432 votes, defeating his opponent, Chief Simeon Ohwofa, who polled 178.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori congratulated Gam and the newly elected executive shortly after the results were announced, praising the peaceful nature of the election.

The vote took place during the 94th Urhobo National Day celebration and the 2025 Annual Congress at the UPU headquarters in Uvwiamughe-Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The governor described the participation of all aspirants, regardless of the outcome, as a show of genuine commitment to the unity and progress of the Urhobo nation.

He encouraged the new leadership to build on the achievements of past administrations by strengthening harmony, promoting development, and advancing the collective interests of Urhobo people.
Political watchers say Gam’s re-election did not come as a surprise.

His campaign had enjoyed significant support from traditional rulers and key stakeholders across the 24 Urhobo kingdoms. A royal endorsement received earlier in the race was widely considered a major boost to his return bid.
With the election now concluded, attention shifts to the work ahead.

Many Urhobo sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora are hopeful that the new UPU leadership will deepen unity, preserve culture, and champion socio-economic development across the region.
