Flood: Clear your drains, water channels - Warri South Chairman, Tidi urges residents

Warri South Chairman, Dr. Michael Tidi urged residents to clear drains and water channels to avert flood disaster

Authorities of Warri South Local Government Council, have urged residents of Warri upland and riverine communities, to clear their drains and water channels, saying the challenge to avert flood disaster, requires concerted efforts.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, who handed down the challenge in a statement released Tuesday June 20, through the Council’s Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Omawumi Elete, assured residents of the sustained efforts of his administration to step up the daily cleaning of major roads and streets in Warri South Local Government Area.

Whilst acknowledging the travails some residents of Warri were already facing as a result of flood, Dr. Tidi, reiterated the resolve of his administration to continuously work with the relevant state government agencies, to “assist in the opening up of blocked canals and larger water channels.”

Areas such as Okere road, from Anglican Church to the bridge, Ekurede-Urhobo junction to Eagle Roundabout, Kosini junction to Total Filling Station along Airport road, Total Filling Station to Ame Specialist Hospital, along Okumagba Avenue, houses in Ekurede-Itsekiri along the NPA Bypass and Emiko Close, behind Mopol Base, were among areas ravaged by the flood overnight, as a result of heavy downpour between 9 and 11pm.

Recall that NIMET and other relevant federal government agencies, had repeatedly warned of impending flood across the country this year, particularly areas that suffered flood crisis last year.
