Gunmen kill DELSU Professor in Asaba

Gunmen have reportedly killed Emeka Chukwuma, a 56-year-old professor at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.

Sources revealed that Chukwuma was attacked in his home in the St. Bridges area of Umueji, Asaba, the Delta state capital, on Friday night.

The professor had returned to Asaba for his usual weekend visit when the tragic incident occurred.

“Emeka Chukwuma was assassinated in Asaba on Friday night. He usually comes home every weekend. Unfortunately, he returned yesterday for his usual weekend and was killed in his house”,  a source said.

It was learnt that Chukwuma, who previously lectured at the university’s Anwai campus before it was converted to Dennis Osadebey University, had since resumed teaching at the Abraka campus. The source also expressed concern about the rising insecurity in the area. “As I speak to you now, Asaba is no longer safe. We are confused over the situation.”

It was also gathered that the tragic death of Chukwuma has raised fresh concerns about security in the region, with residents calling for urgent intervention.
