The Speaker of Delta State 8th Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has said that the House under his watch, is working assiduously towards promoting bills and resolutions that would impact the lives of Deltans.
To achieve this, the Speaker stated that the House would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders, particularly the media in driving its vision, mission and agenda.
Rt Hon Guwor stated this when he played host to executives of NUJ Delta State Council led by its Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, in his office at the State’s Assembly Complex, Asaba.
The Speaker, therefore, urged the media to sustain its support with the State legislature, even as he stressed the need for robust and efficient reportage of activities of the 8th Assembly.
The Speaker who was joined by principal officers of the House to receive the Union Executives, charged members of the State NUJ to uphold professional integrity at all times by ensuring accurate and balanced reportage.
Describing journalists in the State as partners in progress, Guwor said the activities of the State legislature could not have been properly articulated by Deltans if not for the timely reportage of the press.
He promised that judging by the Pedigree of previous Assemblies, the 8th Assembly intends to sustain the vibrancy the House is known for.
Given the rising spate of insecurity across the various states in the country, Guwor said the Assembly is working in synergy with the other arms of government to forestall the trend in Delta State.
He hinted that the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is already on top of it, allaying the fears raised by the leadership of the NUJ over the suspected infiltration of some criminally minded individuals into the State.
The Speaker stated further that the State legislature, in collaboration with the executive, would swiftly engage the security agencies towards forestalling any unfortunate occurrence.
“In the area of Peace and security as you stated in your address, let me assure you that the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is already on top of it. He will do everything needed to ensure that the State remains peaceful and an investment haven for investors.
“As a state, we will continue to work on the various security agencies to ensure that the State remains peaceful. So, Deltans should be calm and relaxed because your fears are already taken care of” Guwor stressed.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ, Delta State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, said they were in the Speaker’s office to congratulate him on his emergence as Speaker of the State legislature and the National Treasurer, Conference of Speakers of States Houses of Assembly.
The NUJ boss informed the Speaker of fears currently being nursed by Deltans following what he described as the rising spate of insecurity across various states in the country.
According to Comrade Oyowe, the fears is being heightened as some “unknown” persons who could hardly be identified by residents are already infiltrating the State.
He called on the State legislature to liaise with the executive to forestall possible breaches in the peace and security of the State.
Oyowe who commended the Speaker for his leadership qualities in the State Assembly, also thanked him for the appointment of a veteran in the Council, Comrade Nkem Nwaeke as his Chief Press Secretary, CPS.
He assured the leadership of the Assembly of robust collaboration with the NUJ.
The Speaker, also, played host to the Executive of the Delta State Chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) led by its Chairman, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo. He commended the women journalists for their drive for a better society.
He congratulated the State for producing the Vice President and Secretary Zone ‘F’ of the Union and assured members of a partnership.
The State NAWOJ Chairperson, Sonia Unobunjo presented to the Speaker, the vision of the Union and sought the collaboration of the Delta State Assembly.
Meantime, the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor has urged Leaders of the Local Government Councils Legislative Arms to work closely with the Executive for enhanced grassroots development.
Guwor stated this when he played host to representatives of the Leaders of the Delta State Councillors Forum.
The Speaker while commending the Councilors Forum for identifying with him, enjoined them to ensure robust legislative practice at the local government level.
Guwor urged them to work closely with their respective Chairmen to improve governance at the grassroots, stressing that the Legislative Arms of government are vital to good governance.
Leader of the delegation and Leader of the Udu legislative arm, Hon Emmanuel Owholo in his remarks congratulated the Speaker as well as Principal officers of the house for their emergence as leaders of the 8th Assembly.
Hon Owholo expressed optimism that the Assembly will engender a symbiotic relationship between members and legislators at the local government level.
The visit was attended by Principal officers of the Delta State House of Assembly.
