In a strategic move to bolster preventive policing, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Superintendent of Police (SP) Orvenonne Ikwen as the new National Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin on 22 November, 2025 the appointment is part of the IGP’s vision for a modern, intelligence-led, technology-driven, and citizen-centred Nigeria Police Force that prioritises early intervention and community trust in the fight against crime.
SP Ikwen, a seasoned officer with a Ph.D. in Computer Science (specialising in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) from the University of Calabar, brings vast experience in security, strategic communication, and behavioural change advocacy.
According to the statement, the newly appointed POCACOV National Coordinator is a member of the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria and the Institute of Conflict Management & Negotiation Analyst.
The new POCACOV boss has been tasked with deepening the campaign’s reach across tertiary institutions, schools, communities, and youth platforms through innovative, participatory approaches to tackle cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, gender-based violence, and misinformation.
IGP Egbetokun charged her to strengthen partnerships with community leaders, educational institutions, youth groups, and long-standing stakeholders while deploying cutting-edge strategies for crime prevention.
The IGP expressed confidence that SP Ikwen’s expertise in technology-driven policing and public engagement will elevate POCACOV’s impact in building a safer society through proactive, people-friendly initiatives.
