Issele-Azagba community appeals to Governor Oborevwori to stop planned installation of monarch

The Umu-Ojeagu Royal Family of Issele-Azagba community, Aniocha South LGA Delta State, have appealed to the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to stop the planned installation of Ikechukwu Christopher Adigwe Ugbome as the Obi of Issele-Azagba due to a subsisting interlocutory injunction issued by a State High Court.

In a letter titled ‘Notification of the Interlocutory Injunction in Suit no. HCI/36/2023 between Timothy Tobechukwu Jideuwa Obi-Ijei and four others and Ikechukwu Christopher Adigwe Ugbome and six others, the people stated that the injunction issued by Justice E.G. Timi was still subsisting and the substantive matter adjourned to July 21, 2025 for continuation of hearing.

While informing the governor that it would be contemptuous and an aberration for anyone to take illegal step as it affects the matter before the court, they pointed out that the order was given to ensure that things were done according to the rule of law and to ensure peace and tranquility in the community, adding that they (claimants) are peace loving people who believed in the tenets of the rule of law.

In the letter signed by Mrs. P.O Ugbo of A.K. Nmah and co. Chambers, they stated that the concluded arrangement to install the first defendant, Ikechukwu Christopher Adigwe Ugbome as Obi in Issele-Azagba would create chaos and rancor in the community, a situation the court considered before making the order to avoid breakdown of law and order in the community.

‘We, therefore, with utmost respect, call on you sir, to use your good offices to stop the plans of the Delta State EXCO to install the 1st defendant (Ikechukwu Christopher Adigwe Ugbome) as the Obi of Issele-Azagba pending the hearing and determination of the suit”, they pleaded.
