Labour Party lawmaker dumps party, moves to APC in Delta

The member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the Labour Party in Delta State, Ngozi Okolie has resigned his party membership and announced his decision to join the All Progressives Congress in the State.

The federal lawmaker who spoke to journalists in Asaba, said he had consulted wide with his constituents on his resignation from the Labour Party, as well as exploring the option of joining the All Progressives Congress.

He said; “a lot of people are resigning from their party and moving to APC, and today I decide to resign from the Labour Party today”.

Okolie, one of the two federal lawmakers from Delta State that were elected on the platform of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections said he decided to resign his membership of the Labour Party due to the internal crises rocking the Labour Party.

“Well, to be honest, I think that the labour party for now is very disorganized, we don’t have any head way, no directions and the lingering problem that is actually drawing us back. So staying in party that is not organize would actually not make me progressing in the national assembly, stated Okolie.”

The lawmaker representing Aniocha Oshimili federal constituency in the Green Chamber stated that he had informed Governor Oborevwori about his decision to join the All Progressives Congress.

He said aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress at the national would facilitate his efforts to attract more constituency projects to Aniocha Oshimili areas of Delta State.

“I am here to inform you that I am no longer a member of the Labour Party. My resignation from the Labour Party will enable me to attract a lot of progress and projects to my constituency, So I felt that if I resign from the labour party, seek another party that will help me at least attract projects to my community and constituency. So best for me instead of waiting for the labour party problem to be solved which is unending.

“Am approaching the APC and you know the traditional rulers in Delta have endorsed the President, the state governor has moved to APC. The PDP structures have moved to APC but I think it would be to the advantage of my constituency to actually join them there too.

“I have discussed with alot of traditional rulers, and also discussed with some people in my constituency, of course, I couldn’t reach out to everybody and that is the sense of calling you because I know you can reach alot of more people.

“I have reached out to the party, some are for it, some are against it but there comes a time that you really have to weigh the options that his available to you and just make the decision you think is right at that point.

“And I don’t know about tomorrow but I think for today and the two years remaining in my tenure, I think it will be best to join the APC” Okolie added.
