NDDC Managing Director, Samuel Ogbuku, Honoured in London as 2025 Regional Development Champion

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has received international recognition as the Nigeria Regional Government Development Champion of the Year 2025 at the prestigious London Political Summit and Awards (LPSA) held at the UK House of Commons.

The award, conferred during a special parliamentary session hosted by Hon. Oliver Ryan, MP for Burnley, and chaired by Prof. Kishan Devani BEM, celebrated Ogbuku’s exceptional leadership in driving innovation, governance, and sustainable development across Nigeria’s oil-producing Niger Delta region.

Dr. Ogbuku, represented at the event by Dr. Chris Ekam and Dr. Willie Etim, expressed deep appreciation to the organizers for the global honour, describing it as an acknowledgment of NDDC’s ongoing transformation and its impact on lives and infrastructure across the region. He noted that the recognition was a testament to the Commission’s renewed commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive progress.

According to Ogbuku, the international spotlight reinforces that the reforms and developmental strides undertaken by the NDDC are being recognized beyond Nigeria’s borders. He pledged that the Commission’s management and board would be further motivated to complete legacy projects and strengthen human capital development initiatives aimed at empowering communities.

In his remarks, Mazi Godson Azu, founder and convener of the London Political Summit, described the annual event as one of the most respected global platforms promoting dialogue on governance, leadership, democracy, and peace among African nations and the Commonwealth.

He explained that the summit was conceived to foster collaboration between Africa and the global political community in pursuit of sustainable development and democratic values.

Other recipients of this year’s awards included former Kenyan Vice President Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, and UK Mayor Paul Bristow, among others.

The recognition of Dr. Ogbuku marks another milestone for the NDDC under his leadership, underscoring its evolving role as a catalyst for regional transformation and innovation in governance across the Niger Delta.
