Senator Ned Nwoko has called on the federal government and fellow legislators to take actions that would make Nigerians enjoy the dividends of independence.
Senator Nwoko made the call in his independence message released in Abuja today.
He argued that true independence for Nigerians should mean to save them from the shackles of perpetual dependency, hunger and poverty.
The senator also called on the federal government to stop using the American dollars as means of selling crude oil to Dangote Refinery and paying foreign professionals.
Nwoko said that it was against the nation interest and security to be using two currencies in the country.
He commended the steps of the federal government to start selling crude oil in Naira to Dangote and other local refineries.
He also said that all domiciliary accounts in the country should be converted into Naira so that the accounts could not be used as conduit pipe.
The senator called for the creation of social security agency to replace the current Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, adding that the poor and hungry Nigerians should be included in that social security network.
On the foreign scene, the senator renewed his call for the payments of reparations by Europe to Africa, making a strong case that the next secretary general of Commonwealth of Nations to come from Africa.
He made a strong case for a single currency in Africa to avoid foreign manipulation of various African countries currency.
