Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a 16-year-old autistic artist, is starting a bold new journey. The current Guinness World Record holder aims to secure a second record by cycling across Nigeria. This national project, named #RideWithKanye, seeks to raise autism awareness and promote social inclusion.
The initiative is a partnership between the Kanyechukwu Autism Society Foundation, the Lagos State government, and the National Sports Commission. At a recent launch event, several top dignitaries gathered to support the cause. This group included Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development.
The cycling challenge will begin in Enugu and conclude in Lagos on April 2, 2026. This final date is significant because it marks World Autism Awareness Day. Organizers stated that the project aims to help the public understand autism better. Furthermore, they want to encourage the inclusion of autistic individuals in all parts of society.
Commissioner Ogunlende confirmed that the Lagos State Government fully backs the initiative. He noted that the project aligns with the state’s “THEMES Plus” development agenda. Additionally, he praised the expedition for successfully combining sports with social advocacy.
Kanyeyachukwu is already famous for creating the world’s largest art canvas by an individual. He believes this new cycling feat is a vital step toward acceptance. His father also shared his excitement. He explained that the journey represents a strong belief in creating more opportunities for people living with autism.
The planned route will take the team through Enugu, Anambra, Delta, Ogun, and Lagos states. In each location, organizers have scheduled special reception events. These events will provide various services to the local communities.
The grand finale in Lagos will be a major part of the World Autism Awareness Day celebrations. To ensure success, the foundation is partnering with Spark a Spectrum, a prominent advocacy organization based in the United States.
Several key partners are supporting this impactful campaign. The Cycling Federation of Nigeria has assigned 20 professional cyclists to ride alongside Kanyeyachukwu. Other supporters include the Cyclology Cycling Club and Koyo HealthTech.
A major goal of the campaign is to raise funds for education. Specifically, the foundation wants to train 1,000 caregivers across Nigeria. These caregivers will learn essential skills to support autistic children and teenagers. Consequently, this will improve the lives of families in homes, schools, and local communities nationwide.
