NLC Stages Peaceful Protest in Asaba, Delta Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Security

The Delta State Government has reiterated its resolve to safeguard lives and property, stressing that security remains the cornerstone of effective governance in the state.

This assurance was given on Wednesday at Government House, Asaba, by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Johnson Erijo, while receiving members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) who embarked on a peaceful protest against rising insecurity as part of a nationwide action.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Erijo acknowledged the concerns raised by the workers, noting that ensuring the safety and welfare of citizens remains the primary duty of government at all levels.

He observed that although Delta State continues to enjoy relative peace compared to many parts of the country, the protest was a show of solidarity with other Nigerians grappling with security challenges nationwide.

According to the Chief of Staff, the Federal Government is fully aware of the prevailing security situation, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited numerous security issues and that concerted efforts are underway to address them.

Erijo conveyed the governor’s message to the protesters, emphasizing that peace and security form a central pillar of the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda. He noted that without a secure environment, meaningful development and the delivery of democratic dividends would be unattainable.

He assured the workers that their grievances had been carefully received and would be communicated to the appropriate authorities, including the Presidency.

Commending the NLC for conducting the protest peacefully, Erijo praised the maturity and restraint displayed by the workers and assured them of continued efforts by government to strengthen security across the country.

Earlier, the Delta State Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Acrobat Enekhawore, said worsening insecurity had disrupted daily life and eroded public confidence nationwide, calling for stronger collaboration between state and federal authorities to restore safety and stability.
