NNPC Chevron Drills Awodi-07 Well in Niger Delta

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has confirmed a major success in the western Niger Delta. Chevron Nigeria Limited recently completed the drilling of the NNPC Chevron Awodi-07 appraisal and exploration well.

The well is located in a shallow offshore area. According to a statement released on Monday, January 26, 2026, the project confirms the presence of significant hydrocarbon reserves.

The NNPC Chevron Awodi-07 well was designed to evaluate the joint venture’s asset portfolio. During the operations, the team encountered hydrocarbons across multiple reservoir intervals.

The drilling process began in late November 2025 and concluded by mid-December 2025. Furthermore, all activities followed strict regulatory and operational requirements. After the testing phase, the team safely secured the well to protect the environment.

Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, the Group CEO of NNPC Ltd, praised the successful outcome. He noted that the discovery proves the strength of the partnership between NNPC Ltd and Chevron.

“This achievement supports our strategic goals of boosting production,” Ojulari stated. He added that the project would create sustainable value for all Nigerians. Because of this discovery, the nation can expect improved energy security.

Additionally, the Executive Vice President for Upstream, Udy Ntia, described the discovery as a result of well-planned exploration. He attributed the positive outcome to the reforms introduced under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
