Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has commissioned the 4.8-kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala road network in Oko Kingdom, along with the 1.8-kilometre Amaechi Agusi road and adjoining streets in Asaba, all located in Oshimili South Local Government Area.
Addressing residents during the ceremony in Oko town, the governor said the series of road projects executed by his administration had strengthened public confidence in government as the state approaches the 2027 general elections.
Oborevwori also revealed that the state government has approved Phase Two of the Oko road project because of its strategic importance.
The next phase will cost ₦16.9 billion and will be handled by Setraco Nigeria Limited, with a completion timeline of 24 months.
He noted that the new road corridor would make it easier for farmers and traders in surrounding communities to transport their produce to nearby markets.
The governor further argued that the administration’s record of completed projects has limited the grounds on which opposition parties can criticise his government ahead of the next governorship race.
Oborevwori also praised the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 2023, saying they have improved the financial capacity of state governments.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, explained that the road was constructed above the flood level recorded during the devastating 2012 floods to prevent future disruptions.
The Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Patrick Ukah, said more than 70 kilometres of roads had been completed within the capital territory.
He also announced that the long-awaited Asagba Road project in Asaba had received the governor’s approval and would begin soon.
Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Kelvin Ezenyili, praised the governor’s continued investment in road infrastructure, describing the projects as important improvements that would support daily movement and local commerce.
Representing the host communities, the Palace Secretary to the Asagba of Asaba, Patrick Ndili, and the Akor of Oko Kingdom, Osita I, said the roads had been requested by residents for years and would bring easier access and development to the area.
