October 1 protest: Security operatives take over Delta location

Following the planned protest against bad governance, security operatives in the early hours of today, Tuesday, took over the Effurun and DSC roundabout in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

This is coming as Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Day Anniversary.

Protesters are yet to come out as of the time of this report.

Human right activist, Comrade Israel Joe in a chat with our correspondent in Warri said the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government should not be scared of peaceful protest if what they were doing was correct.

He said the energy the government put in suppressing dissent voices should be used in protecting protesters.

According to Joe, “We are celebrating independence, but we are not independent.

“We are not free when there are still no jobs. We are not free when insecurity, kidnapping, and robbery cannot be tackled by the government.

“We are not free when economic hardship and hunger keep hitting us hard.

“We are not free when they keep clamping down on dissenting voices of conscience.

“While we pray to be free at last, we shall continue to engage the government with protests to enable us to get freedom at last.”
