The Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Area, Hon. Augustine Usinafe Ogedegbe, has assured the people of Ethiope East, particularly residents of the university community of Abraka, that decisive measures have been put in place to curb the rising activities of kidnappers and thieves in the area.
Ogedegbe gave the assurance, in his office shortly after his induction into the African Leadership Hall of Fame, an honour conferred on him by Afrikanwatch Network Communication in recognition of his strides in leadership and infrastructure development.
Addressing the recent security concerns that sparked protests by residents and students of Delta State University, Abraka, Ogedegbe revealed that his administration had intensified consultations with stakeholders, following a meeting convened by the state governor.
“We are doing all we can to curb the challenges of insecurity in our local government area. To achieve this, we are meeting with all stakeholders, including the local hunters and vigilantes,” Ogedegbe said.
He disclosed that his government had expanded security engagement to include local hunters alongside the vigilante groups and conventional security agencies, a move he said had begun yielding positive results.
“As you may have observed, I just concluded a security meeting with the security agencies, the vigilantes, and most importantly, the local hunters,” he stated.
The chairman assured the people of Ethiope East that with these measures and ongoing collaborations, the safety of lives and property was guaranteed. “Our people should not be afraid; their security is well assured,” he declared.
