Olu of Warri Unveils Iwere Trust Fund, Pledges ₦750 Million to Kickstart Development Drive

His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, has launched the Iwere Trust Fund (ITF) with a groundbreaking personal donation of ₦750 million, marking a historic milestone in the kingdom’s journey toward sustainable development.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, during events marking the monarch’s 4th Coronation Anniversary at the Aghofen Royal Palace. The Olu explained that the fund was designed as a collective development vehicle to address critical needs across the Itsekiri nation, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, culture, and economic empowerment.

Speaking before dignitaries, traditional leaders, and citizens, the revered monarch said his initial contribution was a demonstration of “leadership by example,” stressing that true progress would come only if all Itsekiri sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora rally behind the initiative.

“The Iwere Trust Fund is not just about today but about securing the future of our children and generations yet unborn. I have chosen to set the pace with my personal contribution of ₦750 million, and I urge every Itsekiri, regardless of location, to join hands in building a stronger Warri Kingdom,” the Olu declared.

The Iwere Trust Fund will operate as a transparent, structured platform managed by a board of trustees, with a clear mandate to attract contributions, partnerships, and investments for the upliftment of Itsekiri communities.

Observers described the unveiling of the fund as the high point of the anniversary celebrations, reflecting the Olu’s vision of a modern Warri Kingdom where culture and tradition align with socio-economic advancement.

Community leaders, youth representatives, and guests at the palace hailed the initiative, pledging their readiness to support the monarch’s development blueprint. Many described the Olu’s gesture as a call to unity, sacrifice, and responsibility for every Itsekiri.

The launch of the ITF not only underscored the monarch’s four years of progressive leadership but also set the tone for the next phase of his reign — one focused on empowerment, legacy, and inclusive prosperity.
