Onyeme summons Isoko LG Chairman over absence from meeting

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Mr. Monday Onyeme, has summoned the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council,  Friday, over his absence from a crucial meeting held on Thursday in Asaba.

The meeting, which included traditional rulers and officials from Isoko South Local Government Area, was convened to address issues of governance and community progress.

Onyeme, expressing his displeasure, stated, “There is no justification for the council chairman’s absence at this meeting. This meeting takes precedence over other assignments, as it was convened at the Governor’s directive to ensure we uphold our responsibilities to the people.”

He instructed the chairman’s representative, Mr. Osuofa Eloho, to ensure that the chairman met with him at his office without delay.

The deputy governor reiterated the importance of effective leadership at all levels of governance, emphasising that leaders must deliver tangible progress for their people.

He remarked, “A King, a council chairman, or a governor who does not ensure the progress of their people has failed. Thankfully, we have a governor who listens, consults appropriately before making decisions, and is committed to inclusive governance. We should align ourselves with his vision.”

Onyeme urged local government chairmen to fulfill their mandates and avoid actions that could cause disharmony within their communities.

“Local government chairmen must perform the duties for which they were elected. They should be true representatives of the people, make informed decisions, and involve their communities in their actions to foster progress,” he said.

The deputy governor also called on traditional rulers to ensure peace and progress in their domains.

“We want peace in all parts of Delta State. Our respected royal fathers, as you return to your kingdoms, ensure they are peaceful and progressive. Engage in proper consultations and involve your people in decision-making to achieve the progress we all desire,” he added.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including the Ovie of Okpe Isoko, HRM Agbabe Felix;  the Odiologbo of Ibrede, HRM Austin Oghaiyabor;  the Igwe of Abala Kingdom, HRM Obi Dr. Fredrick Egbunkonye II; and Hon. Ferguson Onwo, the member representing Isoko South Constituency II in the Delta State House of Assembly, among others.
