Oteri-Ughelli Community Youths Declares War on the Sale of Hard Drugs, Parade of Illegal Arms

Youths from Oteri-Ughelli Community, in Ughelli North LGA, Delta State, have read riot act and banned the sales and intake of hard drugs that have had negative impact on the youths.

The community youths led by its chairman, Comrade Orute Esegine and the Majority Leader of the Ughelli North Legislative Arm, Hon Ese Agbobore used a town crier to announce the sales of hard drugs ban of any kind to any end users.

Hon Ese Agbobore while speaking to newsmen said, “Today the entire Oteri community youths observed that the rate of drugs abuse is embarrassing and alarming and we concluded that no more sales of hard drugs of any kind in the community.

“We have also decided that anyone engaging in the sales of hard drugs should either stop it or quietly leave the community before the law will catch up with them, irrespective of their status and position in Oteri.

“This measures that the community has taken is also applicable to youths that are addicted to hard drugs that if anyone is caught, the community will deal with such person before they would be handed over to the law enforcement agency for prosecution.

“We have declared war on hard drugs users, sellers and illegal parades of arms be it a cutlass and any other dangerous objects or weapons.

“It is very unfortunate that after the intake of hard drugs by these persons, those that own vehicles would embarked on speeding spree that would lead to accident.

“As a community, the Oteri youths are saying no to sales of hard, abuse and over speeding and that is why we are using the town crier to announce to the entire community as any excuse will not be accepted.”

“As the councillor representing the Oteri and other communities, we met an existing bill that prohibited the usage of hard drugs but currently the Legislative Arm is working on how to amend it to include all hard drugs.

“The bill we had before now only prohibited Indian Hemps but right now we are working to ensure that any kind of hard drugs contained in that bill would be pass into law soonest.”

“The council chairman is working seriously to ensure that youths in Ughelli North are free from drug abuse. He provided a well equipped office for officers of Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and we are working with the chairman for a better Ughelli North.”

On his part, the community youth leader, Comrade Orute Esegine said, “We have held meetings with chemists in the community and if anyone violate the agreement, such person would be banished from Oteri.

“Let it be known that our community leaders, stakeholders are in support of whatever we are doing and if by any chance, any group of persons dare to challenge our decision, the community will deal with such person before handing them over to the appropriate authority.” He assured.
