Over 200 Delta Civil Servants Laid Off Over Age Falsification, Questionable Credentials

Over two hundred Delta State civil servants who were supposed to have retired but falsified their age to remain in service , have been forced to retire with immediate effect.

The Chairman of Delta State Civil Service Commission, and Chairman of the State screening committee, Chief Roseline Amioku ,stated this while speaking with newsmen at the commission’s office in Asaba where the verification exercise is being conducted..

She hinted that those with age falsification, and questionable credentials were affected in the ongoing screening exercise carried out as part of civil service reforms to ensure productivity and effective service delivery.

Chief Amioku explained that the ongoing screening exercise had revealed that the majority of those still working in the public service are above working age.

”A lot of people are blowing whistle to us. We decided to act swiftly by investigating and look at the files of civil servants. We found out that hundreds of civil servants who are supposed to have retired five years ago, are still in service, receiving salary. So, it was based on this that the Delta State Civil Service Commission decided that the screening exercise was worth undertaking. Many of them reduced their age to the extent that their own children are now senior to them ”, Amioku stated.

The Delta State Civil Service Commission Chairman stated further, ”Over two hundred civil servants have been retired over age falsifation already. And we have just started. We have not done fifty per cent of the exercise which is going to continue till next year. We are screening the entire workforce of Delta State”

Amioku hinted that the state government was only doing the right thing, and not the narratives being speculated in public space that the government is forcefully retiring civil servants.

Recall that some affected civil servants had accused the state government of forcefully retiring them from the public service to cut wage bill.
