Operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s Decoy Squad, led by ASP Julius Robinson on a sting operation, have arrested the 32-year-old leader of a kidnap gang, Emmanuel James of Otor-Udu, Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The operatives also arrested a 25-year-old gang member, Ejiro Peter, who reportedly kidnapped a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Okutonye Efetobore, and collected N1 million ransom at Ughelli.

Another suspect, simply identified as ‘Oh Lord’ escaped with bullet wounds.

The police also recovered a bag containing a locally fabricated pistol and three rounds of 7.62 AK47 live ammunition from the suspects.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement signed and made available on their official Twitter handle.

The Police image maker said James led operatives to Ujewu community in Udu Local Government Area on Friday May 12, at about 0230hrs and arrested the syndicate driver, Peter, a native of Kokori community in Ethiope-East Local Government Area.

According to DSP Edafe, “They confessed to their involvements in series of armed robbery, kidnapping operations in Ughelli and Warri which includes the kidnap of Mr and Mrs Okutonye Efetobore on 27/04/2023, at Ughellli town and a ransom of one million naira (N1,000,000) was paid before the couple was released.

“On 12/05/2023, the suspects led the operatives to another notorious member of their criminal gang whose real name is unknown but fondly called “Oh Lord” at Egbike area in Udu.

“The suspect, upon sighting the police, engaged them in a gun duel and escaped through the ceiling of his apartment with bullet injuries.”

He noted that when his apartment was searched, the above-mentioned items were recovered.

Edafe added that a manhunt for ‘Oh Lord’ is ongoing.
