Police Nab Notorious Serial Killer, Oko Prison Escapee in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested Michael Ezenwai, a dreaded serial killer and one of the inmates who escaped from Oko Maximum Correctional Centre, Benin, during the 2020 #EndSARS jailbreak.

The 35-year-old suspect was smoked out of hiding on October 24, 2025, by operatives of Agbor Division following a complaint that he was attempting to sell a suspected stolen mobile phone at a popular market in the ancient town.

Upon interrogation, police discovered that the phone belonged to a young woman who had been found dead in her apartment the previous day. Confronted with the evidence, Ezenwai reportedly confessed to robbing and strangling the victim in her residence on October 23, 2025.

Further investigation unearthed chilling details linking the suspect to a string of violent crimes across the state.

Detectives confirmed that Ezenwai was among the dangerous inmates who fled Oko Prison when hoodlums attacked the facility during the nationwide protests five years ago.

More disturbingly, the suspect has admitted to his involvement in the gruesome 2020 rape and murder of a female university undergraduate in Agbor, a case that shocked the state and remained unresolved until now.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday, saying the Command was intensifying efforts to unravel the full extent of the suspect’s criminal activities.

“Michael Ezenwai is a confirmed serial offender. He is presently in our custody and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Edafe assured.

Residents of Agbor and neighbouring communities have expressed relief over the breakthrough, with many calling for swift justice.
