Shimite Bello death case moved to IGP, suspect goes missing

The ongoing investigation into the death of Shimite Bello has been transferred to the Inspector General of Police (IGP)’s monitoring unit, following a formal petition from her family.

This move comes after what the family described as “an untidy investigation by the Delta State police command.”

In a statement signed by Chief (Bar.) Kimashinor Nwakalo-Imu, head of the Nwakalo family, new revelations point to disturbing circumstances surrounding Bello’s death. The family alleges that the prime suspect, Mr. Love, held her captive in their bedroom for three days, denying access to her loved ones until her death.

The statement reveals that a pharmacist, acting on the suspect’s instruction, administered both oral and intravenous medications to Shimite just 24 hours before she died. The pharmacist reportedly told investigators that she had warned the suspect to “quickly take Shimite to the hospital as her condition from what she can see was critical,” but the advice was ignored. Bello died shortly after in her bedroom.

The pharmacist further admitted that she “did not take any vital signs, like her BP, temperature to determine her state of health, nor did she have any previous health records” before giving the medication.

Mr. Love, who was initially questioned and released by the Asaba police, is now reportedly on the run. “The Asaba police command who set him free cannot locate him as all his known lines have been switched off,” the statement notes, describing the suspect as “dangerous and should be declared WANTED.”

The family also accused the suspect of attempting to manipulate public perception. “The suspect has taken to social media from his hiding place, accusing Shimite’s family of breaking into SHIMITE’S house.”

“Those in the know of the matter are wondering how a house that was open with the family members inside can be broken into.”

Chief Nwakalo-Imu also warned against misinformation and media bias.

“Let it be known that there’s no amount of media hirelings that will change the narrative nor intimidate the police from carrying out their constitutional responsibility of diligent investigation and prosecution.

“Let’s stand together for shimite Bello, Justice must be served!!!,” the statement added.
