The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Institutions (NASU) on Tuesday has prolonged its strike ultimatum to the Federal Government by another two weeks.
Both unions had earlier issued a seven-day deadline to press home demands over unresolved welfare issues, warning of a possible nationwide strike. Their grievances include the alleged unfair distribution of earned allowances and the non-payment of outstanding entitlements.
In a letter signed by SSANU President, Muhammed Ibrahim, the unions explained that the extension became necessary following a meeting held on September 19, 2025, with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan. Representatives from the National Universities Commission, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, and other key stakeholders also attended the meeting.

The unions noted that while deliberations touched on their demands, no firm resolutions were reached. “Concrete resolutions of our requests have not been met, necessitating the continuation of discussions,” the letter stated.
JAC recalled that it had first written to the Federal Government on June 18, 2025, which led to a meeting with the Minister of Education on July 4. Despite these engagements, the unions say most issues remain unresolved.
With the new extension effective from Tuesday, the unions warned that if the government fails to act within the two-week window, they will commence a series of industrial actions.
