A trader identified as Augustina Oyadi is currently undergoing treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba after she was reportedly hit by a tricycle rider who later abandoned her at the hospital and fled. Oyadi, who sells foodstuffs, suffered a serious injury to her leg in the accident, which happened on Wednesday afternoon along the Iboza Junction–UBA axis in Asaba.
Witnesses said the rider, a young Hausa man commonly called “Aboki,” initially appeared willing to help after the crash. He quickly took Oyadi to St. Joseph Hospital in Asaba, but doctors there referred her to the Federal Medical Centre because her injury required more specialized care.
He then transported her to the federal hospital, but sources say he quietly left after dropping her at the female orthopaedic ward, leaving her without support. His sudden departure reportedly left Oyadi and her relatives struggling to cope with the cost of her treatment.
Speaking from her hospital bed, Oyadi expressed distress over her condition. She said doctors informed her that she might need to remain in the hospital for about ten days. She also lamented the fact that the rider disappeared after bringing her to the hospital.
Her family has since reported the matter at the A Division Police Station in Asaba, hoping authorities will locate the rider and hold him responsible for the incident.
