Barau Football Club from Kano has arrived in Asaba with a distinct objective — to secure one of the four highly sought-after promotion slots to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as they gear up for the 2025 Nigerian National League (NNL) Super Eight playoffs.
Known as the Maliya Boys, the team from Kano landed in the capital of Delta State on Wednesday, brimming with confidence and ambition. They traveled with a robust delegation comprising 32 players and over 15 officials, which includes coaching and support staff.
Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, the Club Media Officer, confirmed their arrival and highlighted the team’s resolve to contend for a position in Nigeria’s premier football league.

“We have arrived with a singular aim — to achieve promotion to the NPFL. The players are both mentally and physically ready, and we trust that our dedication will be evident on the field,” Gwale remarked.
Barau FC, recognized as one of the unexpected success stories of the 2024/25 NNL season, will be competing against formidable opponents such as Warri Wolves, Osun United, Crown FC, and Kun Khalifa FC from Owerri. Additional competitors include former NPFL teams Wikki Tourists, Yobe Desert Stars, and Doma United.
The week-long tournament, commencing on July 5 and concluding on July 12 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, will not only determine the four teams promoted to the NPFL but will also crown the overall champion of the NNL season.
With the Super Eight set to deliver excitement, tension, and high-caliber football, Barau FC’s participation introduces an exhilarating northern element to the contest for NPFL slots — and they are poised to create history.
