24 Schoolgirls Rescued from Kebbi Abduction Without Ransom Payment

A significant breakthrough in the fight against banditry was achieved this week as security forces successfully rescued 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State.

Crucially, the rescue operation was completed without the payment of any ransom, offering a rare victory amid ongoing security challenges in Northwest Nigeria.

The successful operation took place on Saturday, deep within a forest area. It involved a coordinated effort between the Nigerian military and various state security services.

Governor Confirms Safe Return

Kebbi State Governor, Nasiru Idris, confirmed the safe return of the girls and provided assurances regarding their well-being.

“These 24 young girls are now safe and in good health,” Governor Idris stated. “They are currently undergoing necessary checks and will soon be reunited with their relieved families at a formal ceremony. I can confirm that this successful operation was achieved purely through the dedication of our security forces, and no ransom was paid to the abductors.”

The rescue comes as a major relief to the region, which has been plagued by incessant kidnappings targeting schools and communities.

Presidential Praise and Enhanced Security Measures

The operation quickly drew praise from the highest office. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended the security teams for their professionalism and successful execution of the mission.

In response to the persistent threat posed by armed groups operating from forest hideouts, President Tinubu has ordered immediate, enhanced security measures. These include the establishment of robust security cordons across the forests spanning three affected states. Furthermore, the President has mandated increased air support from the Nigerian Air Force to aid ground troops in surveillance and rapid response capabilities.

The rescue of the 24 schoolgirls stands as a testament to the commitment of the security forces and brings a moment of hope and relief to families and communities grappling with the menace of banditry in Northwest Nigeria.
