Adejobi Tours Delta Commands, Calls for Discipline and Continuous Training

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations at the Delta State Police Command, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has urged officers to remain professional, embrace modern policing strategies, and uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

He delivered this message during a working visit to the Ughelli Area Command in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Welcomed by the Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Shaba, along with other senior officers, Adejobi encouraged personnel to continually update their knowledge of modern policing methods and conduct themselves according to the ethics of the force.

Adejobi, who recently served as the Force Public Relations Officer, reminded officers that “a policeman, in uniform or not, is like an angel whose duty is to guide and protect.”

He stressed that the police uniform symbolizes integrity and compassion—not intimidation—and that officers, whether on patrol or performing routine duties, must reflect those values.

Lamenting that some officers feel embarrassed to wear their uniforms in public due to the misconduct of a few, he emphasized the importance of continuous self-improvement. Officers, he said, must remain informed about new laws and operational directives to avoid becoming “quacks” in the profession.

“Any officer who refuses to study, learn, or understand new directives is simply not fit for the job. You must be updated so you can justify your actions while on duty,” he warned.

Adejobi also cautioned against unprofessional behaviors like harassment, extortion, and abuse of power, noting that one officer’s misconduct can undo the good work of many others.

“You can’t be performing excellently in one area while another officer is somewhere assaulting an innocent person. One bad act can destroy the reputation built by a hundred others. That must stop,” he said.

He further encouraged officers to support their leaders, uphold discipline, and maintain peaceful relationships with communities—especially during the ember months, when crime rates typically rise.

Adejobi also praised the Inspector-General of Police for ongoing reforms and welfare initiatives aimed at promoting professionalism and rewarding outstanding performance in the force.

He expressed gratitude to the officers who surprised him with a birthday celebration, saying, “I’ve never celebrated my birthday in an office throughout my career. I’m always on the field, and today is no different. This surprise from the Ughelli Area Command truly means a lot to me.”

Earlier, ACP Aliyu Shaba described the visit as one he had long anticipated, adding that the officers benefited greatly from the encouragement and insights shared.

The visit forms part of DCP Adejobi’s ongoing tour of police formations across Delta State, aimed at improving operational effectiveness and boosting the morale of officers.
