cable vandal found hanging on electricity pole
The corpse of a yet-to-be-identified man was at the weekend found hanging on a twin electricity pole at Ogbe Quarters of Ute-Okpu community in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that residents in the community raised the alarm when they saw the corpse of the man hanging on an electricity pole and cables located close to a market in the community.
The deceased was suspected to be a cable vandal, according to local sources who added that the electricity poles are located at a 33 KVA transformer by the popular Afor Market.
A witness revealed to Sun that he was on his way to a nearby community when he saw the corpse on the pole and raised the alarm.
“We were alerted by a young boy who was going to the next village. We never knew that somebody was hanging up there,” said one of the residents who identified himself as John.
“We didn’t go anywhere today due to the rain fall. Even though we came out to our front here, we did not notice the lifeless body of the young man hanging there.
”The lifeless body is holding electric cable in his hands, which means that he was cutting the cable. For sometime now we didn’t have power supply but BEDC brought light around 3am.
“Well, only God knows what happened. We have alerted the vigilante in this area and we are waiting for them to bring down the corpse,” John added.
Another resident who craved anonymity, said the deceased suspect was holding cable which means that he was the there “to vandalize the cable. Our youths don’t want to work but want to make money.
“Nobody can identify the corpse because he is up there. Until they bring him down we won’t know whether he is from here or from any of the neighbouring villages.”
The state Police spokesperson DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident on Sunday, “Yes, it is confirmed. The young man is a vandal and unfortunately, he was electrocuted,” Edafe said.
