Rural Electrification: REA boss meets Oborevwori on electrification of remote communities via renewable energy

The Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has received the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, on a courtesy visit to Delta State.

Discussions centered on the REA’s ongoing efforts to electrify remote communities across Nigeria through distributed renewable energy solutions.

Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his strong commitment to leveraging the opportunities provided by the Electricity Act 2023, which empowers subnational governments to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity within their jurisdictions.

As part of the next steps, the REA, under the leadership of Abba Aliyu, is facilitating a strategic roundtable engagement with key stakeholders, Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs), and investors.

This effort aims to chart a clear path for sustainable energy development and infrastructure growth in Delta State.

In his remarks, Aliyu said, “I am particularly pleased to have received the Governor’s full commitment to leveraging the opportunities presented by the Electricity Act 2023, which empowers subnational governments to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity within their jurisdictions.

“As part of our next steps, a strategic roundtable engagement is in the works—bringing together key stakeholders, RESCOs, and investors to chart a path for sustainable energy development and infrastructure growth in Delta State.

“Together, we move closer to achieving universal energy access, one state at a time.”
