NIPCO Gas Limited has launched two new compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in Asaba and Warri, Delta State.
The company said the move strengthens its role as a key player in improving access to cleaner, more affordable, and dependable energy across Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by Secretary to the State Government Kingsley Emu, explained that the new stations are a practical response to the economic strain many Nigerians have faced since the removal of the fuel subsidy.
He noted that the facilities will offer motorists and commercial transport operators a cheaper alternative to petrol, helping to ease the burden on household expenses. He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting investments in CNG infrastructure, vehicle conversion centres, and technical training to ensure long-term sustainability.
The Commissioner for Transport, Onoriode Agofure, described the project as a major boost for the state’s transport sector. He said the lower cost and efficiency of CNG would reduce operating expenses for commercial drivers, potentially lead to lower transport fares for commuters, and improve margins for logistics operators.
He added that Delta State is positioning itself as a leader in the shift toward cleaner energy and will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to maximise the benefits.
On behalf of NIPCO Gas Limited, Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Tarat reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s transition to a gas-powered economy. He said ongoing investment in CNG infrastructure is vital for strengthening energy security, cutting reliance on imported fuel, and promoting environmental sustainability.
Tarat added that the new stations go beyond simply supplying fuel, describing them as drivers of economic growth, cleaner urban environments, and broader development.
