The Delta State Police Command have recorded significant successes in two separate operations, including the interception of illicit drugs hidden inside household items and the recovery of a firearm linked to a murder and cult-related case.
The operations, carried out on Tuesday, were made possible through intelligence gathering and coordinated security efforts across the state.
In the first incident, officers from the Safer Highway Patrol along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road stopped a Sienna bus heading toward northern Nigeria. The vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Osuke Stephen, was thoroughly searched after credible intelligence was received. During the search, officers discovered hard drugs concealed inside energy-saving light bulbs. The substances recovered included 490 grams of suspected cocaine and 4 grams of “loud,” a strong strain of cannabis. Preliminary investigations suggest the drugs were being moved to Abuja, while police continue efforts to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the trafficking network.
Later that same day, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team achieved another breakthrough in Ughelli. Acting on intelligence, they recovered a pump-action shotgun and three live cartridges that had been dumped in the Ekigbo area.
The weapon is believed to be connected to the ongoing investigation into the killing of Alex Adanike, who was murdered on January 15, 2026. Three suspects have already been arrested and charged in relation to the case.
Further findings indicate that a suspect, identified as Eddy Onose who is currently on the run previously possessed the firearm before abandoning it after realizing he was being tracked. He is also allegedly linked to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Aro Bagger.”
Authorities say efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, to arrest the fleeing suspect and gather additional evidence.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing aimed at breaking up criminal networks.
He also called on residents to stay alert and continue supporting security agencies in their fight against crime.
