Chibueze Osama Wins Gold Medal at Niger Delta Games Race

Chibueze Osama of Delta State is officially the fastest man at the 2nd Niger Delta Games. In a stunning display of speed, Osama stormed to victory in the Men’s 100m final, clocking an impressive 10.42 seconds.

The sprint final was the highlight of a day filled with intense competition. Osama led a strong field, with Gift Bright of Akwa Ibom taking the silver medal in 10.57 seconds. Delta’s Saturday Goldswill followed closely to secure the bronze in 10.59 seconds.

A thrilling “three-horse race” has emerged at the top of the standings. Host state Edo is currently leading, but Delta and Bayelsa remain within striking distance.

As of the latest update, Edo State leads with a total of 45 medals. This includes 22 gold, 11 silver, and 12 bronze medals. Delta State follows very closely with a total of 44 medals. Meanwhile, Bayelsa sits in third place with a respectable 26 medals.

Edo’s athletes have been relentless across various sporting disciplines. They have swept gold medals in swimming, athletics, taekwondo, and even chess.

In the swimming pool, Joy Peremoboere Kimiakigha became a star by winning both the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke. Additionally, Tissa Precious powered to victory in the men’s freestyle events.

Edo also found success on the track beyond the 100m sprint. Solomon Okundaye won the men’s 800m, while Oseiwe Salami claimed gold in the 400m hurdles. Furthermore, the state celebrated triumphs in the hammer throw, shot put, and relay events.

Taekwondo and para-powerlifting further boosted Edo’s gold tally. Notable gold medalists include Alegu Solomon, Emmanuel Ogbevoen, and Nicholas Ojomah. Philomena Edomwandagbon also struck gold, proving the state’s strength in combat sports.

In the intellectual arena, chess prodigy Omoruyi Sandra Osarugue secured a golden moment in the women’s rapid category. Meanwhile, Obaisuwa Emmanuel and Emmanuel Audu delivered commanding performances in para-powerlifting and shot put respectively.

The atmosphere at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium remains electric. At the tennis courts, enthusiastic fans are cheering as young players compete for glory.
