DELSU VC Calls for Closer Collaboration with Police to Curb Crime

The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, has called for stronger collaboration with the Abraka Division of the Nigeria Police Force to maintain a safe and crime-free university environment.

Professor Asagba made the appeal while receiving the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Abraka Division of the Delta State Command during a courtesy visit to his office. He noted that the responsibilities of a Vice Chancellor are similar to those of a police officer, as both roles demand swift and decisive action when duty calls.

He urged the DPO to ensure proper investigation and diligent prosecution of criminal suspects within the division, expressing concern over what he described as the premature release of individuals caught committing offences.

The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that he is currently restructuring the university’s security framework to strengthen safety on campus.

Earlier in his remarks, the DPO of the Abraka Division, Chief Superintendent of Police, Kolo Dauda Musa, said his visit was to formally introduce himself and build a working relationship with the university leadership through the Vice Chancellor’s office. He added that he sought the Vice Chancellor’s guidance and support in tackling crime within the area and assured him of his readiness to respond whenever needed.

Among those present at the meeting were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Aviedo Atakpo; the University Registrar, Mrs Rufina Ufiofio; the University Bursar, Mrs Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa; Deputy Registrar in the Vice Chancellor’s Office, Mrs Ejiro Etobro; the University Public Relations Officer, Mr Henry Eseka; DELSU Chief Security Adviser, DSP Michael Taga (Rtd); Chief Security Officer, Flight Lieutenant Ifeanyi Odita (Rtd); the Abraka Division Station Officer, ASP Ibitoye Jimoh; and the Abraka Divisional Crime Officer, CSP Collins Onye.
