To further boost infrastructural development across the state, the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) has expressed its readiness to engage relevant stakeholders to ensure faster release of funds for critical projects, particularly road construction, in the 2026 fiscal year.
Hon. Oboro Preyor, Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Special Projects, made this statement on Monday, during the 2026 budget defense, assuring that the committee would intensify efforts to secure timely funding for key projects.
Preyor made the remarks as the management and staff of the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) appeared before lawmakers to defend the Agency’s 2026 budget proposal. Responding to the Agency’s concerns over delayed fund releases in 2024 and 2025, he attributed the delays to bureaucratic bottlenecks and promised that in the 2026 fiscal year, the Committee would strengthen its engagement to achieve better results.
Chief Emmanuel Ighomena, Director-General of the DLA, highlighted that in the 2024 fiscal year, while N2 billion was approved for the Agency, only N534 million about 26.7 percent was released. For the ongoing 2025 fiscal year, he noted that out of N3.5 billion approved, just N228.2 million, or 6.52 percent, has been disbursed so far.
Looking ahead, the Agency is proposing a budget of N4 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to support its developmental activities.
