The Delta State Government has clarified that the recently completed Olomoro–Igbide Road project is a wholly state-driven initiative, countering reports suggesting it was funded by the Federal Government through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, issued the clarification on Friday, stressing that the project was approved by the State Executive Council in August 2024 under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, with construction commencing in November 2024.
Aniagwu explained that the road was awarded to Lebtech Construction, fully financed by the state government, and delivered in line with specifications. He added that the project, though already in use, is awaiting formal commissioning.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Olomoro–Igbide Road is a Delta State Government project. It had no link to the Federal Government or the NDE,” Aniagwu stated. “The state provided full funding and ensured quality delivery for the benefit of Olomoro and Igbide residents.”
The Commissioner recalled supervising the project personally, alongside Governor Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, and the State Commissioner for Lands, Surveys and Urban Development, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, during different inspection visits to ensure quality control.
Aniagwu’s remarks followed a report by Tracka, a civic group, which had tagged the project as an NDE intervention in a recent social media post. While commending the organization’s role in promoting accountability, Aniagwu urged them to verify information more rigorously to avoid public misinformation.
He reassured residents that the road stands as proof of the state government’s commitment to rural infrastructure and inclusive growth, noting that it is already improving transport and connectivity for the benefiting communities.
