The Delta State Commissioner of Police has raised alarm over the growing number of murder cases in the state, blaming many of the incidents on drug abuse among young people. He pointed to a recent killing in Ogwashi-Uku as a tragic but avoidable incident.
Police records show that on January 8, 2026, a 20-year-old man was stabbed to death while asleep along Poly Road, near Adaigbo Filling Station. Investigations revealed that the suspect, who is the victim’s brother, allegedly carried out the attack after taking illicit drugs.
The suspect, identified as Aliyu Haman, has since been arrested, and the weapon used in the killing was recovered. Police detectives were swiftly deployed to the scene immediately after the incident was reported.
The Commissioner reassured residents of the command’s continued commitment to security, while also appreciating the support of the state government. He further disclosed that from January 8, 2026, to date, the police have recovered 11 firearms and 80 rounds of ammunition, and arrested several suspects in connection with murder, cult-related activities and sexual offences
