Ex-Militant General Asabuja Sounds Alarm Over Armed Threats, Accuses Religious Leaders of Neglect

Former Niger Delta militant leader, General Asabuja, has raised a serious alarm over what he described as mounting security threats posed by armed groups allegedly surrounding communities in the region.

In a widely circulated video recorded in Pidgin English, Asabuja warned residents to remain alert, stating that “terrorists are already rounding us… they are all there with their guns,” urging people to take cover and stay vigilant.

In his message, Asabuja claimed that bandits were hiding within nearby bushes and accused authorities of ignoring the growing danger.

He urged Christians to actively protect themselves rather than depending solely on prayer, warning that complacency could prove fatal.

According to him, “God helps those who help themselves,” a reference he used to stress the need for self-defence and community preparedness.

The former militant leader also spoke passionately about the long-standing grievances in the Niger Delta, accusing northern power blocs of exploiting the region’s oil wealth while local communities continue to suffer poverty and insecurity.

He likened the extraction of crude oil to “sucking coke,” arguing that the people whose resources fuel the nation receive little in return.

Asabuja did not spare religious institutions, directing harsh criticism at church leaders whom he accused of enriching themselves at the expense of their congregations.

He condemned what he described as widespread deception, claiming that many pastors preach about heavenly rewards while hoarding material wealth on earth. “They loot and lie to us,” he said, insisting that such leaders would ultimately face divine judgment.
