Ezewu Expresses Satisfaction with School Resumption Across Delta

The Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Chief (Mrs.) Rose Ezewu, JP, has expressed satisfaction with the level of teachers’ attendance across secondary schools as the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session commenced.

Speaking in Asaba, the state capital, the Commissioner represented during the monitoring exercise by her aide, Mrs. Justina Ishiaka described the resumption monitoring as a crucial process for assessing compliance by school administrators, teachers, and students.

Ezewu encouraged principals and teachers to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism, while commending them for their consistent commitment and support over the years, especially in 2025. She reminded teachers that now that the first day of resumption had been largely devoted to cleaning classrooms, full academic activities should begin immediately. She also announced that her ministry would conduct a resumption test on Thursday, January 8.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, the Commissioner expressed confidence that Delta State would surpass its previous achievements in education by 2026.

Ezewu also expressed deep shock and sadness over the reported death of a teacher at Westend Mixed Secondary School, Mrs. Prisca Igbojinwaekwu Majokwu. According to the school’s principal, Mrs. Augusta Ogeah, the late teacher reportedly died from complications arising from a recent surgery. The Commissioner conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the school community and the bereaved family.

In separate remarks, the principals of Westend Mixed Secondary School, Mrs. Augusta Ogeah; Isioma Onyeobi Secondary School, Mrs. Helen Oke Omogbesiayeh; and Osadenis Mixed Secondary School, Mrs. Patience Ngozi Aguonye, alongside Mr. Benedict Aseyeni of Niger Mixed Secondary School in Asaba, pledged their commitment to supporting the growth and development of the state’s education system.

The Commissioner also extended the resumption monitoring exercise to schools in the Warri axis and other local government areas across the state, with the exercise ongoing.
