Gov Oborevwori Bags Outstanding Leadership Award at PGF Meeting in Asaba

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honoured with the Outstanding Leadership Award for Excellence in Governance by the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) in recognition of his humility, visionary leadership, and transformative contributions to governance in Delta State.

The prestigious award was presented on Thursday during the PGF Quarterly Strategy Meeting of Secretaries to the Governments (SGSs) of APC-Governed States, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

Themed “Strengthening Subnational Governance Synergy for Effective Policy Coordination in APC-Governed States,” the meeting brought together SSGs from APC-controlled states, top government officials, and policy experts to discuss strategies for improving administrative collaboration and governance reforms across Nigeria.

Presenting the award, Mr. Folorunsho Aluko, Director-General of the PGF, described Governor Oborevwori as “a beacon of humility, progress and excellence in governance,” noting that his leadership has redefined public service through accessibility, empathy, and discipline.

“Your administration’s commitment to infrastructural renewal, youth inclusion, and transparent governance has set a new standard of progress and purpose in public office,” Aluko said.

“Beyond the projects that dot Delta’s landscape, what stands out is your humility of heart, accessibility, and genuine passion for the people.”

Aluko further emphasized that the Asaba meeting symbolized “the renewed energy of cooperative federalism,” noting that the Secretaries to the State Governments are “architects of coherence and custodians of purpose” in driving the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He added that the award was not merely a recognition of Governor Oborevwori’s personal excellence but also a tribute to collective progress, reminding leaders that “history rarely rewards those who merely occupy offices; it celebrates those who build systems that outlive them.”

Responding on behalf of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, expressed appreciation to the PGF for the recognition, describing it as a powerful motivation to sustain Delta’s development trajectory.

“We are delighted to host this important convergence that drives the engine of governance and strengthens service delivery. Our MORE Agenda—Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security—is in full alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government,” Onyeme stated.

He outlined key projects under the MORE Agenda, including the reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Dual Carriageway, and ongoing flyover projects at Otovwodo Junction, Ughelli, and Uromi Junction, Agbor, which are designed to accelerate infrastructure development and stimulate economic growth across Delta State.

In his welcome address, Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, said Delta’s active participation in the PGF family has strengthened intergovernmental collaboration and enhanced peer learning among state leaders.

“Our MORE Agenda aligns seamlessly with the Renewed Hope Agenda, and this partnership continues to yield transformative outcomes,” Emu noted.

Also speaking, Chairperson of the PGF Forum and Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, commended the Delta State Government for its exceptional hospitality and organizational excellence, describing the Asaba meeting as “one of the most productive sessions yet.”

The forum concluded with a shared commitment among APC-governed states to deepen subnational governance, digitize government operations, and institutionalize performance-based management systems that drive efficiency, transparency, and citizen-centered service delivery.
