Commissioner for Higher Education Commends Progress of Projects at University of Delta, Agbor

The Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of infrastructural development at the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, following an inspection visit to the institution on Thursday.

During the working visit, Prof. Tonukari inspected a number of completed and ongoing projects, including the newly completed Faculty of Management and Social Sciences building, which he described as “a significant milestone in the university’s infrastructural advancement.”

The Commissioner also visited the construction sites of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and the 1,500-seat auditorium, both of which are at various stages of completion. He commended the contractors handling the projects for their diligence and professionalism but urged them to intensify efforts to ensure timely delivery in line with the state government’s development schedule.

According to him, the new facilities are critical to enhancing academic programmes, improving teaching and learning experiences, and providing an enabling environment for innovation and research.

Prof. Tonukari also used the occasion to appreciate Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his swift funding interventions and unwavering commitment to the development of the education sector, particularly higher institutions in the state. He noted that the governor’s proactive leadership under the MORE Agenda—which stands for Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security—has accelerated progress in state-owned universities and polytechnics.

“These projects will elevate the University of Delta to a new level, providing students with modern facilities that meet global standards,” Prof. Tonukari stated.

The inspection visit, he added, underscores the Delta State Government’s continued determination to strengthen the quality of higher education through sustainable infrastructural development and academic excellence.

With the visible progress recorded at UNIDEL and other tertiary institutions across the state, Delta continues to consolidate its position as one of Nigeria’s leading states in educational advancement and institutional growth.
