The Delta State Police Command has made a major breakthrough in its fight against cultism and violent crime, arresting four suspects and recovering weapons, ammunition, and illegal drugs in separate operations across the state.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command explained that the arrests were part of ongoing intelligence-driven efforts to reduce criminal activity.
According to the statement, officers from Delta Shield, while carrying out surveillance patrol in Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area on April 11, 2026, apprehended a 32-year-old man, Peter Onajite. A search on him reportedly uncovered a locally made, cut-down double-barrel pistol, two live cartridges, one spent cartridge, and sachets of suspected Tramadol.
Initial investigations suggest that the suspect allegedly admitted to being the leader of the Juris Confraternity. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation on April 12, 2026, officers attached to the Ibusa Police Station disrupted a suspected cult initiation after acting on a tip-off. The raid, which took place along Jordan Road in Ibusa, led to the arrest of three individuals, including a woman, while another suspect, identified as Chinedu Onyeama, is still on the run. Recovered items from the scene included an English-made Beretta pistol with one live round, three battle axes, a hammer, a cutlass, and 39 firelighters.
The State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the officers for their quick response and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and warned that efforts to tackle cultism and other violent crimes would continue.
The Command also reassured residents of its dedication to maintaining safety and security throughout the state.
