Oborevwori Urges Quality Projects During NASS Visit

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has charged contractors handling projects in the Niger Delta to deliver only high-quality and durable jobs.

Governor Oborevwori, who made this call on Monday, 13 April 2026, when he received members of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong and Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, to Government House, Asaba, warned that substandard execution of projects will no longer be tolerated.

The governor, while appreciating the committees for their oversight visit, stressed that interventionist agencies like the NDDC must focus on accountability to ensure that projects have a real impact on the people.

“Contractors must deliver quality jobs that will stand the test of time. We cannot continue to have projects that collapse shortly after they are commissioned,” Oborevwori said.

He emphasised the need for proper needs assessment before projects are executed, rather than relying on assumptions.

The governor, while advocating for stronger feedback mechanisms that would enable communities to report poorly executed projects, cited an instance where a school roofing project was so badly done that the state government had to intervene to correct it.

He called for greater involvement of local contractors in smaller and community-based projects, while big and technically complex jobs could be handled by international firms.

Earlier in his remarks, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, who led the delegation, explained that the joint National Assembly committees were in Delta State to commence oversight on NDDC projects and found it necessary to pay a courtesy visit to the governor.

Senator Ekpenyong lauded Oborevwori’s administration for its impressive performance in infrastructure development, urban renewal, human capital development and youth empowerment programmes.

He said the committee’s visit was not only to inspect ongoing and completed projects but also to ensure that NDDC interventions deliver tangible benefits to host communities.

Senator Ekpenyong reiterated the committee’s readiness to work closely with the Delta State Government and other stakeholders to strengthen oversight and fast-track development in the region.
